Amber's Thoughts:
This is 100% the card I recommend you begin with if you're new here. In fact, if you've had this card for 48 months, I'd recommend you downgrade it to a no annual fee card and apply again!! It earns great rewards and has my FAVORITE travel partners
Amber's Thoughts:
Another Great Starter Card! This card earns 2x points on all purchases. It also has great airline travel partners! We have transferred points to Flying Blue (AirFrance/KLM) for multiple trips to Europe!
Amber's Thoughts:
Don't see the card you are looking for? Check these out:
This is a no-annual-fee starter hotel card. Hilton points don’t stretch very far, so the welcome bonus is the main draw. Automatic Hilton Silver status and bonus points on Hilton stays add value, but I recommend applying only when there’s an elevated offer.
Amber's Thoughts:
This is a strong option for business owners who stay at Hilton properties. While the points alone aren’t the highlight, Hilton Gold status and solid earning on business purchases add meaningful value. Waiting for an elevated welcome offer is important with this card.
Amber's Thoughts:
This is my favorite Hilton card for most people. Hilton points aren’t especially valuable, but Hilton Gold status (free breakfast at many properties) and strong earning on Hilton purchases help offset that. As always, apply when there’s an elevated welcome offer. Definitely jump on board if you ever see a welcome offer with a Free Night Certificate.
Amber's Thoughts:
Devin and I have each had this card at least 2 times. I keep mine forever because the annual fee is more than paid for with an annual free night certificate (worth 35,000 points). A great thing about marriott is that the 5th night is free when booked on points. My favorite time to open this card is when they are offering five Free night certificates (FNC) worth 50k points each. You can always top off a FNC with 15k of your own points. Chase and marriott are both transfer partners of marriott if you need extra points to top off an fnc!
Amber's Thoughts:
This is the big brother premium card to the card I consistently recommend to beginners. First of all - i'm always excited when a new credit card is created! the downside to this is a large annual fee at $795 - however, the perks are worth over $2700. The real question is - will you use the perks? The $300 annual credit is extremely easy to use by booking in chase travel. If the Global entry/Precheck, lounge access, dining credit and Apple TV/Apple music (and more) perks speak to you, it may be worth getting for at least a year!
Amber's Thoughts:
It's no surprise that Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain because my points stretch farther there than with any other hotel. It doesn't even compare. I will pay an annual fee on this card happily because the annual fee is $95 but it also comes with an annual free night certificate for a Category 4 or lower hotel. Whether I use this at a Category 1 or 2 road trip hotel or a nice Category 4 property, I certainly can't book a hotel room for less than $95, so the fee pays for itself! This card also helps me earn elite nights and instant Discoverist status, which has lots of great perks! Highly recommend.
Amber's Thoughts:
The American Express® Gold Card is widely known as having some of the best spending category bonuses of any card on the market. Pair this with Rakuten for MR points instead of cash back!
AMBER'S THOUGHTS:
The Business Platinum Card by American Express has a high annual fee but tons of perks - so let's hope your business will pay for your annual fee. Lounge access, $200 annual airline incidental credit, and more. Once again, you do not need to own a “traditional business” to qualify for one.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
AMEX points are extremely valuable because of their travel partners. The kicker is that you have to work a bit to make the annual fee worth it. Recently updated to an annual fee of $895, It comes with up $200 airline fee credits, up to $200 annual hotel credits, up to $199 CLEAR® Plus, up to $300 Equinox Credit, monthly digital entertainment credits, lounge access, and a handful of other premium perks.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
It looks like a Cash Back Card! It IS a Cash Back card, UNLESS you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. If you do, you can "combine your points" in your Chase account and use those rewards to transfer to travel partners!!! Game Changer!

AMBER'S THOUGHTS
The best thing about this card is that it provides instant status at Hilton hotels -- and that means FREE BREAKFAST. Also, don't forget that when you book Hilton hotels on points, your 5th consecutive night is free.
Amber's Thoughts:
I will happily pay an annual fee for this card because it comes with an annual free night certificate. I know I can never get a night at a hotel room for less than the cost of the fee. I love 2 things about IHG - many of their hotel rooms sleep 6 AND the 4th night is always free when booked on points!
Amber's Thoughts:
This is a great no annual fee card. Don’t forget that many IHG rooms are family friendly and sleep SIX! Also, the 4th night is always free when booked on points!
Amber's Thoughts:
Here’s the thing - IHG points aren’t generally worth as much as Hyatt points BUT when this card has an elevated offer, I’d say it’s totally worth it!! There are 2 reasons why I love this card: a free night on your card holder anniversary AND when you book 3 nights on points your 4th consecutive night is free. This is a business card so it doesn’t count against 5/24. Recommend!
Amber's Thoughts:
I 100% keep this card for lounge access. While you can no longer bring an authorized user in the lounge without a fee, this card is the clear winner for solo lounge access. Travel as a couple? I recommend both of you get this card.
This is one of those cards that the annual fee is a non issue for me. While the annual fee is $395, there is an instant $300 travel credit and each year, on your anniversary, you'll receive 10k anniversary points (cash value $100)!
Amber's Thoughts:
First of all - I'm always excited when a new credit card is created! This is a huge minimum spend but for many of you business owners you can easily hit this. If you average $5k of monthly spending for 6 months, it'll be no problem for you. Chase points are my favorite points due to the great travel partners. Hyatt, southwest, united, Flying blue, and more! The downside of this card is the large annual fee. There are great perks, including a $300 annual credit. That makes the $795 annual fee more like $495. You'll have to decide if the other perks make the annual fee worth it for you!
Amber's Thoughts:
If you have a home renovation or some HUGE expense coming up, this is for you!! It comes with a high minimum spend, meaning this card will mostly target established business owners. This card boasts many of the perks of the Capital One Venture X Rewards credit card so I probably wouldn't simultaneously hold both.
You can still enjoy the lounge + bring 2 guests with this card!

Amber's Thoughts:
Early in your points journey, I recommend focusing on flexible point earning cards. But there will be a time that you'll want to start grabbing cobranded cards when they have great elevated offers! This is a great card to snag when you see an elevated offer!
I’m always shouting from the rooftops the power of flexible point cards - but what happens when you have the basic ones? It’s time to venture out to cobranded cards. If you live near a United hub, this card is especially valuable! Highly recommend any time it’s elevated!
Amber's Thoughts:
If you live in a United hub - this card is for YOU!! If you’re looking for a great cobranded card that won’t count against 5/24, this card is a great option! You can even use these points to fly United Polaris Business Class to Europe if that’s on your list!
Amber's Thoughts:

Amber's Thoughts:

Amber's Thoughts:
Card #2 to open to earn the Southwest Companion Pass (though the order doesn't matter)! want to learn more about the Southwest Companion Pass, Cardholders get a free checked luggage for each person on their reservation (up to 8).

Amber's Thoughts:

Amber's Thoughts:
This is a solid entry-level Delta card if you fly a couple times a year and want to avoid checked bag fees. Delta miles often don’t stretch as far as other travel partners, but we’ve seen more SkyMiles deals lately, which helps. I still recommend applying when there’s an elevated welcome offer to maximize value.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
This card is about premium perks, not points value. Delta miles don’t go far, but with more frequent SkyMiles deals plus Sky Club access and upgrade priority, it can make sense for frequent Delta flyers. Because of the high annual fee, I recommend applying when the welcome offer is elevated.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
This is the best overall value for most Delta flyers. The Domestic Main Cabin Companion Certificate and the increase in SkyMiles deals make this card easier to justify. As always, I especially recommend during an elevated offer.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS:
This is best for business owners who fly Delta often and value lounge access and elite-style perks. Delta miles don’t stretch far, but increased SkyMiles deals help offset that. With a premium annual fee, applying during an elevated welcome offer is especially important.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
This is a good starter business card if you fly Delta and want simple perks like a free checked bag. Delta miles aren’t the strongest, but recent SkyMiles deals add some extra value. Waiting for an elevated welcome offer is key with this card.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS
This card shines because of the Companion Certificate. That said, more SkyMiles deals lately make earning and redeeming miles a bit easier. If you’re flying Delta at least once a year, just be sure to apply when there’s an elevated offer.
AMBER'S THOUGHTS:
I will always have this card in my wallet! Whether you’re looking for your first good credit card or looking for an everyday spending card, this is for you! This is a fantastic cash back card with excellent spending categories and no annual fee. BUT, it becomes even more valuable when paired with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Why? If you have one of these cards, you can combine the rewards and they will become Chase Ultimate Rewards®. This will allow you to use your points to transfer to hotel and airline partners.
Amber's Thoughts:
Amber's Thoughts:
This card has a huge minimum spend and isn't for everyone! However, if you do have some huge expenses coming up, and you can qualify for a business card, this is a fantastic opportunity! This is a cash back card, however, if you have the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, you can convert the cash back to Capital One miles.
Additional Great Offers:
This is a card that goes under the radar. Air Canada is in the same airline alliance as United - so you can often book United flights for less on Air Canada. Also, points can be used to "pay yourself back" for any travel expense" similar to those Capital One cards that we talk about all the time! This could be Airbnb's, cruises, train tickets, or Disney booked through a travel agent!
Amber's Thoughts:
Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain purely because the points STRETCH farther than at any other brand of hotel. This card is a great card to help you achieve status. It gives you automatic Discoverist status and is helpful if you’re working towards Globalist status!
