All About Flying Blue on Points

back to the blog

If you love flying Air France or KLM, you’re going to want to learn about Flying Blue on points. You can transfer points from ALL 4 major banks (American Express, Chase, Citi, and Capital One) to Flying Blue. Flying Blue is the loyalty program of Air France and KLM and it is how we have flown our family to Europe multiple times! From monthly promo awards to kid discounts, here’s everything you need to know about Flying Blue on Points.

All Four Main Banks Transfer to Flying Blue

You heard me! No matter what flexible point earning card you open from a big four bank, you can transfer points to Flying Blue. Programs included are AMEX Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, and Capital One Miles. Since we have a family of 5, sometimes it’s hard to earn a huge stash of points without running out. I can send points to Flying Blue across multiple banks, which really helps me when I’m booking 5 flights!

Kids’ Discount

For ages 2 to 11, tickets are 25% off when traveling with an adult. To apply this discount, MAKE SURE you select your child’s age during booking. It’ll apply automatically!

From the Air France website:

KLM and Air France Partnership to Flying Blue

Since KLM is in the SkyTeam airline alliance, you can often book Delta flights with points from Flying Blue. Some partner airlines in the SkyTeam alliance also redeem miles with Flying Blue, including but not limited to Delta, Virgin Atlantic, and China Airlines. That’s right – you can often find Delta flights by booking through KLM for a fraction of the number of points that you’d find the same exact flight on the Delta site.

Monthly Promo Discounts from Specific Cities

Flying Blue on points can have major benefits.

Every month, Flying Blue releases a list of discounts for flights to certain cities. Promotions can be up to 50% off! You can find these promos on the Flying Blue Promo Rewards page featured on Air France or KLM’s websites. The booking window for promotions is within the first half of the month and are valid for travel within the next few months following your purchase. The best way to approach these promotions is to have an open-ended date search. This means you search one way and, oddly enough, DO NOT SELECT A DATE! On the website (not the app), this allows you to see the entire calendar month at a glance. Be flexible with your itinerary and schedule your trips for the days with the best deals!

The Best Credit Cards for Flying Blue Flights!

If you’re looking to quickly earn credit card points with a great credit card that will earn you points that can be redeemed on Flying Blue (Air France/KLM), these cards are some fantastic options:

In Conclusion

Flying Blue is such a sweet spot in international family travel. The family rate, coupled with the fact that points from all four major banks will transfer to Flying Blue is HUGE. We have flown to Europe 4 times on Air France and look forward to another trip this summer!
